Guatemalan puppet company. Founded in 1992 in Guatemala City by actress and playwright Ana María Bravo, this children’s theatre company performs in the neighbourhoods of Guatemala City and other regions of the country. The repertoire of Compañía de Teatro para Niños Bravo includes, among others, classic works from children’s literature adapted for theatre and puppetry, such as Hansel y Gretel by the Brothers Grimm, El gato con botas (Puss in Boots) and Pulgarcito (Tom Thumb) by Charles Perrault, Aladino (Aladdin) from The Thousand and One Nights. Among the company’s more recent shows is the production, Xquic, a work conceived from elements of Mayan culture that uses puppets to address children and adolescents. This production aims to show the rich natural and cultural heritage of Guatemala.
