Uruguayan theatre and puppet company, created in 1976 in Montevideo by the scenographer and craftsman Jorge Hirigoyen. Since its founding, Café Teatro has performed around thirty works within Uruguay as well as at festivals, such as those in Rio Grande do Sul and Pelotas (Brazil).

The most representative of the company’s productions are: Cazadar de sueños (Dream Hunter) by Jorge Hirigoyen and Marianella Freccero, a puppet show for children; Les Bubys (1988), with its carnival character combining a variety of musical styles and aesthetic forms; Con la ayuda de mis amigos (With the Help of My Friends), and El bien Amado (The Beloved). The company has also provided the technical production side of Sábado a la noche (Saturday Night) by Beatriz Mosquera, and El contrabajo rosada (The Pink Double-Bass) by Julios César Castro (“Juceca”).

In 1992, Jorge Hirigoyen opened his own theatre auditorium, Arteatro.

Since 1976, Café Teatro has been affiliated with the Federación Uruguaya de Teatros Independientes (FUTI, Uruguayan Federation of Independent Theatres).
