Paraguayan woman of letters. María Luisa Artecona de Thompson held a degree in Science and Letters from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (National University of Asunción), Paraguay. She was Chair of the Department of Literature, Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic University). She was the author of many books for children; but it is her books on puppetry which are the best known in Paraguay and beyond: El titiritero (The Puppeteer, 1992), La hojita de papel (The Little Sheet of Paper, 1992), El vigilante y el ladrón (The Guard and the Robber), and texts collected in L’Anthologie de la littérature de jeunesse paraguayenne (Anthology of Literature for Young Paraguayans, 1992). She also wrote for several daily newspapers and magazines, and represented her country at the international congresses of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People).
