German teacher and specialist in paper theatre (also called toy theatre). Walter Röhler is considered the founder of the research into paper theatre. Besides being a collector and a player of paper theatre from 1925 onward, he was also the author of Große Liebe zu kleinen Theatern. Ein Beitrag zur Kulturgeschichte des Papiertheaters (Big Love for Little Theatres. A Contribution to the Cultural History of Paper Theatre, 1963), as well as trade publications and unpublished manuscripts. His collection and archives are in the possession of the city of Darmstadt and are administered by a benefit society.
