Romanian stage and puppet designer. Ioana Constantinescu worked for Țăndărică Puppet Theatre (today, Teatrul de animaţie Ţăndărică) from 1949 to 1964, designing sets and puppets for: Căluțul cocoșat (The Little Hunch-backed Horse, 1952) directed by Nicolae Massim; Umor pe sfori (Humour on Strings, 1954) and Mâna cu cinci degete (The Hand with Five Fingers, 1957), both directed Margareta Niculescu.
Ioana Constantinescu created set designs and puppets for numerous Romanian theatres where the expressiveness of her characters, treated with a touch of irony and humour, were acclaimed. She received the State Award from the Romanian government in recognition of her life’s work.
Ioana Constantinescu was a founding member of the Cairo Puppet Theatre in Egypt where she trained stage and puppet designers.
